This is an OSS Academy® Hate & Bias Crimes online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Investigating hate and bias crimes is of great importance to law enforcement and the community today. These crimes are on an alarming rise, and for law enforcement, it will require resources, skills, and expertise, as well as collaborations with prosecutors, the courts, the community, and the media, to ensure the civil rights of the accused as well as the safety and welfare of its victims. This course will define hate crimes from both a historical and a law enforcement operational perspective and provide you with a general overview of hate crimes and victim classes in the United States today. The course will also discuss political and religious justifications used by offenders when committing crimes of hate against protected classes of victims. This course will also provide you with general investigative guidelines and offender profile information.
