This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) elective Recording Law Enforcement Actions online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Advances in technology and the widespread use of smartphones, cameras, social media, and other recording devices have significantly changed the environment in which law enforcement officers perform their duties. Officers routinely encounter members of the public who photograph, record, or otherwise document law enforcement activities.
This course examines legal and practical considerations associated with the recording of law enforcement actions. Participants will explore individual rights, officer responsibilities, and appropriate law enforcement responses when members of the public record police activities. The course also addresses important considerations involving officer safety, lawful police operations, privacy, evidence, and interactions with individuals engaged in recording activities.
The course is designed to help law enforcement professionals better understand the legal considerations surrounding recording activities while maintaining professionalism, protecting individual rights, and effectively carrying out their lawful duties.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.
TCOLE Reporting
