Overview
This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Texas Advisory Board Training #3003 course offered in an online training course format for Texas Advisory Board Members.

As a courtesy to our fellow Advisory Board Members throughout the State of Texas, this course is offered at a discounted rate. Thank you for your continued dedication and service to the law enforcement and corrections community.

The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) serves as the regulatory agency responsible for establishing and enforcing minimum standards for law enforcement training programs and training providers throughout the State of Texas. TCOLE operates under the authority granted by Chapter 1701 of the Texas Occupations Code and is responsible for the oversight of law enforcement academies, continuing education providers, and other licensed training programs.

Section 1701.252 of the Texas Occupations Code requires licensed training programs to establish and maintain a Training Advisory Board to assist in the development and oversight of curriculum, admission standards, and other key training program components.

This course is designed to provide newly appointed and current advisory board members with an overview of the statutory and regulatory requirements governing Training Advisory Boards. Participants will review the structure, duties, and responsibilities of advisory boards as outlined in Texas Administrative Code §215.7 and related TCOLE rules. Topics include advisory board composition, meeting requirements, documentation standards, curriculum oversight responsibilities, and the relationship between the advisory board, training coordinator, and training provider.

In addition, the course reviews the advisory board’s role in evaluating training needs, recommending course offerings, establishing admission standards, and ensuring compliance with Commission rules and applicable law. Advisory board members are required to successfully complete this course within one year of appointment.

Upon completion of this course, participants will have a clear understanding of the purpose and function of the Training Advisory Board and their role in supporting high-quality, compliant law enforcement training programs.

Please note, the entire course (including any applicable course parts), final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.
