This is an OSS Academy® Secondary Employment & Off-Duty Powers  online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Have you ever thought about what would happen if you were injured while working an off duty job? Who would pay for the injuries? Is your department responsible? What if someone sued you for some action taken while working off duty employment? Who is responsible for representing you against the suit? Will you have to pay out of your pocket? The answers to these questions may surprise you. The purpose of this course is to explain the legal issues involved in off duty or secondary employment and what officers and law enforcement agencies can do to limit their liability exposure and prevent financial and professional devastation. Off duty or secondary employment is a reality for many law enforcement officers in the United States. Unfortunately, many officers and their respective law enforcement agencies do not consider all of the legal ramifications involved in off duty or secondary employment. This course is designed to help officers make informed decisions about their off duty employment.
